Trump: Possibility of Reaching US-EU Trade Deal Only at 50%
According to PANews report on July 25, although European Union (EU) diplomats have recently expressed optimism about the possibility of an upcoming trade agreement with the US, US President Donald Trump believes the probability of reaching a deal between the two sides to reduce import tariffs is only "50%, possibly even lower".
Trump emphasized that US and EU negotiators are still "working closely" to move towards a common agreement. However, he also warned that if both sides do not reach an agreement before the August 1 deadline, the EU will face severe tax punitive measures from the US. Specifically, most imported goods from Europe could be subject to tariffs of up to 30%, along with additional tariffs applied to specific industries.
Not stopping there, Trump said his administration will continue to send more "tariff notification letters" in the coming days, aimed at establishing a new round of tariffs against other countries. The total number of these letters could reach nearly 200, with many specifying new tariff rates ranging from 10% to 15%.
